Redevelopment, community gardens, and the repurpose of land and buildings are transformative, resident-led initiatives that turn neglected urban spaces, often called brownfields into vibrant, healthy community hubs. These projects address environmental, social, and economic needs by converting, for example, vacant industrial sites into gardens, and abandoned buildings into spaces our communities need.

A Beacon Group Transportation is a volunteer-driven, grassroots, community-based initiative dedicated to eliminating transportation barriers that prevent individuals in recovery from attending vital support meetings and recovery programs. The program operates a 12-seater van with the support of three dedicated drivers and a diverse volunteer team with backgrounds in nursing, healthcare assistance, peer support, case management, counseling, and other supportive professions.
We Encourage Community Involvement
In addition to transportation services, Beacon Group engages participants in hands-on community beautification and restoration projects throughout Summit County. Participants help design and build community walking gardens, landscapes to enhance public spaces and promote wellness. The program also supports neighborhood clean-up efforts, including trash removal, mowing, trimming bushes, and general maintenance of public areas. Additionally, A Beacon Group assists with cleaning and developing residential backyards, helping improve living environments while fostering responsibility, teamwork, and community pride among participants.
Peer-to-Peer
We help those who participate with our organization with more than transportation but also by encouraging them and providing Peer-to-Peer transportation. This essential service makes a lasting difference in the success of long-term recovery.
